Project Background
In this project, children are learning all about birds in our neighborhood. Activities include a bird walk, observations at a bird feeder mounted on a classroom window, and explorations with beaks and feathers. They will investigate nests, build bird feeders to take home, and build a bird house to install at school. In addition to these hands-on experiences, children will have many opportunities to learn about birds from other sources, such as field guides and non-fiction books. We hope that children will heighten their interest in and awareness of the wide variety of birds in their environment.
Activities to Try
Spotting Birds
Encourage your child to observe birds in your neighborhood, noticing their sizes, colors, and behaviors, such as where they rest and how they fly. Then have your child draw a picture or take a photograph to document what they notice!
